For the first time in the history of the T20 World Cup, 20 teams will compete and fight for the World Cup Trophy. The qualification of these teams depends on the World Cup 2022 and other qualifications matches. T20 World Cup Qualifiers include 11 test cricket-playing nations and 9 others.
The top eight teams from World Cup 2022 and the two hosts, including West Indies and USA, automatically qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024. Meanwhile, the best-ranked teams in the ICC T20 Rankings who never secured a position in the finals got the remaining two automatic qualification spaces.
For the remaining 8 teams, ICC organized regional qualifier matches, and from Europe, Africa, and Asia, two teams each made their place in the World Cup tournament. At the same time, one team from East Asia-Pacific and America managed to write their names in the World T20 Qualifier.
In July 2023, Papua New Guinea defeated the Philippines by 100 runs and became the first team to qualify for the Cricket World Cup 2024 East Asia-Pacific Qualifier. While from the Europe Region Qualifiers, Ireland and Scotland finished in the top two on the points table. In the Americas Qualifier Final, Canada defeated Bermuda in October 2023 and joined the World Cup race. Two teams, including Nepal and Oman, reached the finals of Asia Qualifiers. From African qualifiers, Namibia and Uganda finished at the top by defeating Tanzania and Rwanda.
Zimbabwe is the only test-playing nation that could not secure its position for the World Cup 2024. See the ICC World Cup Qualifiers Table below for more details.
